FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Police say a body scanner helped discover a hidden bag of heroin hidden after a Maryland woman was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop.

WBAL-TV (https://bit.ly/1G1yW9P) reports 23-year-old Brittany Ann Sapp, of Hagerstown, was arrested Saturday in Frederick. Authorities say a deputy pulled Sapp over on Interstate 70. During the stop, a K-9 unit detected an odor of a narcotic. Deputies say they seized suspected heroin in the vehicle.

Sapp was taken to a detention center where authorities conducted a body scan. They found a baggie with 1.7 grams of heroin in Sapp’s groin area. Sapp was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Sheriffs say the incident proves the importance of the new body scanner technology.

It is unclear if Sapp has a lawyer.
