ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - A building across the street from the Rapides Parish Courthouse Annex will become the new home of the parish’s juvenile probation office.

The Town Talk reports (https://bit.ly/1F4cHxV ) the Police Jury voted Monday to buy the Lawyers Building for $275,000. It has been appraised at $278,500.

Treasurer Bruce Kelly said the parish will use $100,000 from the parking lot account and $175,000 from the General Fund to buy the building, which currently houses the Munsterman Law Firm and other offices.

Police Jury President Richard Billings said the parish will save money in the long run because it won’t have to pay about $36,000 a year in rent for the juvenile probation office’s current location.

The purchase also will benefit the juvenile probation office employees by being closer to the courthouse.
