PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Three former musical directors of the Portland Symphony Orchestra are joining the current maestro for a 90th gala concert.

Toshiyuki Shimada, Bruce Hangen and Paul Vermel each were conducting a piece along with current director Robert Moody at Saturday’s concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

Vermel served from 1967 to 1975. Hangen served from 1976 to 1986. Shimada served from 1986 to 2006.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra employs 80 professional musicians. A portion of ticket sales will go to support the symphony’s education program.
