COLLINSVILLE, Okla. (AP) - Rogers County authorities have identified the body of a man found in the trunk of his car after it was pulled from the Caney River near Collinsville.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Shane Rhames told reporters that the victim is Rafael Hernandez Torres of Tulsa. Rhames says it appears Torres, described as being in his 40s, was shot several times and his body put into the trunk of his car, which was then driven into the river.

The car was spotted and reported to authorities Friday morning by a truck driver who was crossing the river on U.S. 169.

Rhames said investigators believe Torres was killed elsewhere, then put in the trunk and brought to the river where the killer or killers intentionally drove it into the river. He said detectives have not identified a suspect.

Torres’ brother, Oscar Hernandez, told KOTV-TV that Torres owned a taxi business and said he has no idea who would kill his him, but thinks it was likely someone who called for a ride.

Authorities have not determined when Torres was killed, but Hernandez said he talked to his brother Thursday afternoon when Torres picked him up in a new truck he had bought to expand the taxi service.

“He was in a good, happy mood. He had just gotten this truck,” Hernandez said.
