BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Deputies say a guard at the Beaufort County jail sold a murder suspect a cellphone for $50.

Authorities said 26-year-old Cynthia Jensen was charged with misconduct in office Friday after a two-month investigation.

Investigators say Jensen gave Walter Tucker the phone on March 15. Since then, Tucker was convicted of murder and sentenced to 39 years in prison in a shooting of a man robbed as he tried to buy drugs in September 2012.

Officials in most prisons ban cellphones because they allow inmates to communicate with people outside without any monitoring.

It was not known if Jensen had an attorney.
