FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) - The Connecticut hometown of a cyclist who was fatally stabbed in Florida last year is holding a memorial festival in his honor.

The daylong event Saturday in Farmington benefits the Kevin Adorno Memorial Fund and Bike Friendly Farmington.

Adorno’s sister Tanya Adorno, tells WVIT-TV (https://bit.ly/1bp7Zjr) her brother, a graphic artist, “was just a part of everything in town.” His family wants to complete his ride from Maryland to Miami that was cut short last September.

Twenty-eight-year-old Adorno was talking on his cellphone to his girlfriend when a man stabbed him outside a restaurant. The homeless man charged with killing him told police he thought Adorno was telling people to attack him. Adorno planned to meet his girlfriend at the end of the ride and propose marriage.

Saturday’s event includes bike rides, a 5-kilometer run, food and family activities.
