MADISON, Ala. (AP) - Madison’s first movie theater has a name and a new target opening date.

AL.com reports (https://bit.ly/1GEXjGf ) Cinema Management Group formally announced Friday it is building a 15-screen movie theater called CinePlanet 15 Cinema. The company says the project is slightly behind schedule due to rainy weather, but hopes the state-of-the-art theater will be open by Christmas.

The theater has been in the works for more than a year and was intended to open in May, but was pushed back to a November target date earlier this year.

The $5 to $8 million project may lead to further growth at the property on Hughes Road, although Madison Mayor Troy Trulock says no plans are official.

Madison has a population of about 45,000. Residents’ nearest movie theaters are located in neighboring Huntsville.
