BANDON, Ore. (AP) - A Roseburg man says he is lucky to be alive after he was almost dragged out to sea while fishing on the jetty in Bandon.

The World newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1I2C5Gx ) Tim McKinney was fishing during an incoming tide on Friday evening when a sneaker wave caused a log to roll over his feet, trapping him.

The tide washed the log off of him as it receded, but McKinney’s foot was severely injured. The next wave started dragging him into the surf.

A man on the beach came to McKinney’s rescue, pulling him out of the water, then calling 911. Two women then pulled the injured man farther out as the waves kept coming in higher.

McKinney was taken to the hospital, where doctors found his foot broken in six places.
