ATLANTA (AP) - A University of Georgia administrator has been tapped to lead new initiatives being launched by the University System of Georgia.

System Chancellor Hank Huckaby said in a statement that Tom Jackson has been chosen to work as heritage communications executive for the University System of Georgia. Jackson is expected to begin in his new role Aug. 1.

Officials say Jackson’s duties will include updating a history of the University System of Georgia, leading the Georgia World War I Commission and working with the UGA to bolster the State History Museum, the State Archives and the Georgia Public Library Service.

Officials say Jackson has served as a UGA spokesman for 27 years, managing the school’s news media service, media relations, video productions, open records compliance and more.
