MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - One of the provisions in a tax bill newly passed by the Vermont Senate calls for a new 2.5 percent levy on satellite television and Internet service.

Senators say the tax would raise $2.5 million of the $34.2 million in additional revenue being sought in the bill that passed the Senate on Friday.

Legislators say they’ve received hundreds of e-mails from constituents prompted by Dish Network that begin with the message “Don’t tax my TV.”

The Senate trimmed the tax increase from an originally proposed 5 percent down to 2.5 percent.
