BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police say a naked man with apparent mental health issues set his mattress on fire and then broke windows at nearby homes and a church in Birmingham.

WBRC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Au5xUY ) that the man began breaking windows shortly before 7 a.m. Monday at Roosevelt Manor apartments on Ellington Street.

Police say the man was taken to UAB Hospital for a mental evaluation.

One resident told the television station the man used a shovel to break windows of her home and others. Church members gathered Monday morning to help sweep up shattered glass at the church.

The man’s name was not immediately released. The police investigation is ongoing.
