MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - School kids and community members around Vermont are taking part in the third annual Vermont Intergenerational Walk and Roll to School Day.

The event takes place Wednesday and is intended to encourage walking and rolling to school as a fun and healthy regular event.

In Swanton, students will walk to school and have a bicycle rodeo later in the day. Jericho is holding an intergenerational walk around a nature path, followed by a school and community celebration. And in Barre Town, community members, parents, grandparents, police officers and town and school officials will join the students’ walk.

The annual event is organized by the Vermont Safe Routes to School Resource Center, the Vermont Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and AARP to encourage walkers of all ages.
