ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department says a man was shot by one of their deputies during an attempted arrest.

Sgt. Aaron Williamson says the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Sunday when deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in the south valley area.

Williamson says deputies were trying to take one of the people involved into custody when an altercation took place and shots were fired.

One man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital.

Williamson did not immediately know his condition.

It was not clear if the wounded man was the one deputies were trying to take into custody.

The shooting is under investigation.
