CHICAGO (AP) - Duke University Basketball Coach and Chicago native Mike Krzyzewski (shuh-SHEHF’-skee) returned to his hometown to serve as grand marshal of the Polish Constitution Day Parade.

WLS-TV in Chicago reports (https://abc7.ws/1GQNScf ) the 124th annual pageant had a new route Saturday because of the NFL Draft at the Auditorium Theater.

Thousands attended the event, which stepped off at 11:30 a.m. Students from 34 Polish schools marched.

Krzyzewski just took his team to his fifth NCAA championship.

He says his Polish pride runs deep. Krzyzewski says serving as grand marshal is a big honor because the parade was an annual highlight for him growing up in the city.

Historians say the 1791 constitution was the first of its kind in Europe. Some say it’s the world’s second oldest behind the U.S. charter.
