WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - Melbourne City will meet top-ranked Melbourne Victory in a semifinal derby after beating Wellington 2-0 Sunday in a playoff match in Australian football’s A-League.

Josh Kennedy scored with a close-range shot in the 61st minute and an own goal in the 72nd minute made the game safe for City who qualified for the playoffs in fifth place while Wellington ended the regular season fourth.

The Victory won the Premier’s Plate for finishing first at the end of the regular season, earning a direct path to the semifinals and the right to host the lower-ranked of the playoffs winners.

On Friday third-placed Adelaide United beat defending champion Brisbane 2-1 to earn a semifinal match against Sydney FC. That match will be played in Sydney on Saturday while the Melbourne derby will likely be played Sunday.
