TARRANT, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a toddler underwent surgery after a shooting over the weekend in Tarrant.

Tarrant police Lt. Larry Rice tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1E6YAEx) that the shooting appears to be accidental.

Police say it happened around 6:45 p.m. Saturday at a home on Bell Avenue. Rice said it appears that the 2-year-old boy’s father was cleaning his gun when it went off and the boy was struck.

The child was taken to Children’s of Alabama, where he was taken straight into surgery. Authorities said his injuries are considered life-threatening.
