SOUTH HERO, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is reminding boaters and anglers that the John Guilmette (WIL’-met) Access Area on Lake Champlain in South Hero is not yet open to the public.

The access area was recently acquired by the department as part of its ongoing program to provide public access to public waters.

Department facilities and lands administrator Mike Wichrowski says the reconstruction of the Guilmette Access Area will improve boat launching, offer more organized access and parking, and provide a public facility that meets environmental and disability-access standards.

He says the goal of the project is to make the access area safer and more user-friendly, while protecting water quality.

There are a number of other access points in Grand Isle County.
