DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The Daytona Beach City Council is considering banning driving on some sections of the area’s hard-packed beaches.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1zoRShh ) reports that city leaders will debate a proposal on Thursday that would ban cars from beaches about 1,300 feet behind two, new beach developments.

Supporters of the plan say it would spur economic develop and help invigorate the beach front. Opponents say the ban is one step toward eroding a century-old tradition of driving on area beaches.
