RENO, Nev. (AP) - A former candidate for mayor in Reno faces battery and weapons charges after he allegedly told police he beat a man with a golf club in February because the man ran over his dog.

Larry Pizorno is scheduled to appear at a May 12 preliminary hearing in Reno Justice Court on charges of battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

The 76-year-old Pizorno goes by the nickname “Wolf Man” because he wears a wolf skin to Nevada athletic events.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (https://tinyurl.com/kd3zuus) he allegedly told police he only meant to hit the man in the body, not the head during the confrontation near downtown.

Efforts to reach Pizorno Tuesday were not immediately successful. The newspaper reports he has refused to comment.
