LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County will pay $450,000 to the father of a 2-year-old boy who was kicked and beaten to death despite repeated calls to child welfare authorities about suspected abuse.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday agreed to settle a lawsuit over the 2011 death of Gabriel Dominguez of Lomita.

The boy was found dead in bed. He had more than 100 bruises and other injuries, including a lacerated liver.

Daniel Vegas, a parolee who’d been living with the boy, his mother and her two daughters, was sentenced to 56 years in prison.

The county’s child abuse hotline had received repeated calls about Vega but a social worker who visited the home two weeks before the boy’s death said he saw no bruises.

The father’s lawsuit contends the worker lied.
