PARIS, Maine (AP) - The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says two people have been arrested in connection with a string of car thefts in which two of the stolen vehicles were dumped in the Saco River.

Cpl. Justin Brown says 23-year-old Derek Foster, of Brownfield, and a 16-year old boy face charges in connection with the thefts in Brownfield, Fryeburg and Hiram late last week.

Brown says Foster is being held without bail pending a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.

Charges against the juvenile were not immediately available.

Two cars were found in the river on Sunday. They were removed but are considered a total loss. One vehicle was set on fire and the fourth was crashed into a ditch.

Police say in all four cases, the owners left their keys in the cars.
