BAKER, La. (AP) - With a few days still remaining until the application deadline, the Baker School Board has received four applications for superintendent of schools.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1PoGrrS ) the board says two of the applicants are employees of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the other two are from out of state. The deadline to receive applications is Friday. Board President Elaine Davis says the board will meet on May 13 to narrow the field.

Davis says that meeting will be open to the public, but the process of selecting the finalist or finalists will be done in a closed session.

Outgoing Superintendent Ulysses Joseph announced his retirement March 31.

Davis says the board expects to have a new superintendent in place by June 1.
