ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s governor says the state’s new business mentorship program has proven to be successful in its first year.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday that the initiative, called Business Mentor NY, has led to more than 500 new mentoring relationships between experienced business leaders and individuals looking for a little help turning their ideas into a successful venture.

The state-run program began last year. It uses a website, businessmentor.ny.gov, that works like a dating site: People looking to start or expand their business can browse the profiles of hundreds of potential mentors. The site is free to use.
