GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - A Glendale man is accused of child abuse for allegedly slapping his girlfriend’s 3-year-son.

Police say 25-year-old Jack Riley Wyatt also was jailed on suspicion of aggravated assault on a minor, assault with intent to injure and disorderly conduct.

He doesn’t have a lawyer yet.

The child’s mother told police that Wyatt was looking after the boy while she was at work Tuesday.

When the woman came home, she told police she went to see her son and saw a bluish-purple bruise on the left side of his face.

She says the bruise was in the shape of fingers. Photos were taken of the child’s injuries and the state Department of Child Safety was notified.

Wyatt reportedly told police that he got mad after the boy choked a pet dog.
