LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 79-year-old man has been arrested in Las Vegas after his girlfriend of 30 years was found dead in their home.

Las Vegas police said Joseph Frohlich was arrested Tuesday on a murder charge.

Christine McQuade, who was also identified in a police report as the man’s common law wife, was found dead in the bedroom of their home with an apparent head injury.

The man allegedly told police that the two had spent a nice evening together but he later felt compelled to choke her before smashing her head against the dresser or nightstand.

The man’s sister had called police because they weren’t responding to calls.

The AP sought comment on the charges from Frohlich, but could not verify whether he had a listed telephone number or an attorney.
