FREEPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Three men are in a hospital with serious burns after fumes from fuel tanks ignited at a Long Island gas station.

The blast happened in Freeport Tuesday morning when the men were removing fuel tanks at a closed gas station.

The blaze ignited nearby vehicles and sent thick black smoke billowing into the air.

Officials say the workers are in critical condition. Their identities aren’t being released, but authorities say one is 19 years old and the other two men are 35.

Authorities are calling the blaze accidental, but it remains under investigation.
