JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (AP) - More than 100 pounds of copper wire has been stolen from the Ponderosa Speedway days before one of the track’s biggest races.

Ponderosa Speedway promoter Jerry Denson told WKYT-TV (https://bit.ly/1Efg5Tb) he discovered more than 100 pounds of wire, three large batteries and a ladder had been stolen from the racetrack when he went there Tuesday morning.

Denson and volunteers hung new copper wire in the affected areas Tuesday to get prepared for Friday’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series race. Denson says the event is the biggest in the 43-year history of the Ponderosa Speedway.

Denson says he’s adding new security measures and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office contacted all the scrap yards in the area.

There are no suspects in the theft at this time.
