BOSTON (AP) - The mother of a woman who died of alcohol poisoning while in the custody of Lowell police has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

Alice Swiridowsky-Muckle, the mother of Alyssa Brame, says in her federal lawsuit filed this week that Lowell police showed “deliberate indifference” despite Brame’s high level of intoxication that required medical attention.

Video obtained by WCVB-TV shows Brame was too drunk to stand after she was arrested in January 2013 and lay unconscious on the booking room floor.

The suit alleges Brame was left in a cell for over an hour and even though she didn’t have a pulse, no one called for an ambulance for 13 minutes.

City Manager Kevin Murphy tells The Sun he was surprised by the suit because the city was already negotiating a settlement.
