STRONG, Maine (AP) - Police are investigating the theft of five guns from a home in Franklin County.

The Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1EX0RH5 ) reports that the house, located on a dead-end road in Strong, was left unoccupied.

Lt. David St. Laurent says the long-barreled guns are believed to have been stolen within the past four months. The burglary was reported April 28.

St. Laurent says the house was entered and the person or persons forced their way into a gun safe. Deputy Nicholas Zecher responded to a report of vandalism and criminal mischief at the house the same day the guns were reported stolen. The vandalism is believed to have happened recently.

Police are asking for help from the public.
