SOUTH BOUND BROOK, N.J. (AP) - The police chief of a small central New Jersey town has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident last month.

The Courier News (https://mycj.co/1EQof7N) reports that South Bound Brook chief William King remains on duty while the accident investigation continues. He’s also charged with careless driving, failing to report an accident and improper turning.

The charges against the 51-year-old King stem from an accident that occurred in the early morning hours of April 4. Authorities say a witness saw a pickup truck hit another pickup that was parked in front of the Somerset County town’s municipal offices, then drove off.

A township officer went to the chief’s home and noticed the pickup had some damage, but the chief denied being involved in an accident.
