LEAKESVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Human remains found in a Greene County pond are believed to be those of a missing 27-year-old George County man.

WLOX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Ea4RAl) Donovan Cowart, of Lucedale, disappeared in January 2013.

Now, two people are charged with his murder. Authorities say 35-year-old Welford Lee McCarty and 26-year-old Robert Virgil Stevens, both of Lucedale, were arrested Tuesday. Investigators say they killed Cowart and dumped his body in the pond. Authorities have not released a possible motive for the killing.

McCarty and Stevens are being held in Greene County. It was unknown whether either man had an attorney.

Greene County Sheriff Stanley McLeod tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1JrG4uY ) a forensic exam will confirm the identity of the remains and manner of death.
