DENVER (AP) - A teenager accused of trying to run an Aurora police officer down with his vehicle has been arrested.

The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/ZwL384 ) 18-year-old Alejandro Luis Garcia was arrested Monday on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, vehicular eluding and DUI.

Police say a patrol officer was involved in a traffic stop just after midnight Monday when he noticed another vehicle approaching. As the officer was walking back to his car, the driver accelerated toward him.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was hit in the leg by the car and thrown onto the hood of his cruiser. The suspect then fled and was arrested later in the day.

Booking documents do not indicate if Garcia has hired an attorney.

The officer was treated at a hospital and released.
