TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A police recruit in New Jersey who was expelled after he was caught cheating has resigned after getting a second chance.

Angel Perez resigned from the Mercer County Police Academy on Tuesday. No reason was given.

Perez was a police recruit from Trenton, where his father-in-law is the city’s chief of staff.

Acting Police Director Ernest Parrey Jr. tells the Times of Trenton (https://bit.ly/1bxDMyR ) he’s disappointed. Parrey had allowed Perez to take the academy course a second time after Perez was kicked out for cheating on an exam in December.
