JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska’s ferry system plans no changes to its schedule due to the budget situation at least until the end of the fiscal year on June 30, a spokesman says.

Jeremy Woodrow says it’s not yet clear what the system’s operations for next year will look like. Lawmakers last week approved a partially funded budget for the year starting July 1, helping prompt Gov. Bill Walker to call a special session.

While the House and Senate Finance committees have held hearings on Walker’s new budget proposal, which would restore some funding to the ferry system, the question is whether legislative leaders can reach a compromise to authorize a draw from savings to cover costs of government.

Woodrow says the ferry system has fielded emails and calls from concerned travelers.
