RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and law enforcement leaders are paying tribute to a Norfolk police officer and a Spotsylvania County deputy sheriff who both died while on duty.

Norfolk Police Officer Brian W. Jones was shot and killed in an ambush last May. Spotsylvania County Deputy Sheriff Bryan M. Berger suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in physical training at the Rappahannock Criminal Academy in Fredericksburg last April.

The annual Virginia Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday at the Virginia Public Safety Memorial in downtown Richmond.
