SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Wildlife officials are warning people east of Salt Lake City to be careful after a black bear was spotted near Jeremy Ranch.

Authorities said Tuesday they’ve set traps to catch the animal and release it back into the wild after it was spotted at least twice near homes.

Phil Douglass with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says the bear appears to be about year and a half old.

Officials are asking people near Jeremy Ranch, about 20 miles east of Salt Lake City, to keep their garbage cans sealed and pet food in garages.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1Re82Qq ) that Douglass says people shouldn’t run if they see a bear but rather make themselves look larger and slowly back away.
