FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The family of a man shot and killed by Fayetteville police two years ago has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1EXdOkm) the lawsuit was filed in Cumberland County against the city, the police chief and the officer involved.

The family of 21-year-old Lawrence Graham III said officers used excessive and unnecessary force when he was shot during a traffic stop in May 2013.

City officials would not talk about the lawsuit.

District Attorney Billy West cleared officer Denton Little of any criminal wrongdoing. West said Little had a “legal and measured response to the situation” and acted to protect himself.

Graham died two months after being shot in the back. The lawsuit said the fatal blood clot was a result of the shooting.
