MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say four people are in custody, three handguns seized and a $10,000 reward is being offered in connection with the death of a Merrillville man.

The Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the slaying of 55-year-old Cecil Pendleton Jr. on Tuesday. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Task Force spokesman Bob Byrd says “several suspects were breaking into cars parked at the apartment complex when they saw Pendleton and attempted to rob him as he was entering his van to go to work. The suspects were seen running from the scene after the shooting.”

The (Munster) Times reports (https://bit.ly/1Im1HhQ) police are describing the four people in custody Thursday as potential persons of interest in the homicide. They add investigators still need the public’s help to solve the case.
