MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Leaders of Ball State University have approved increasing how much can be spent on improvements to the school’s aging baseball field.

The (Muncie) Star Press (https://tspne.ws/1AIHvjC ) reports Muncie’s school board of trustees had initially agreed to allow no more than $3.5 million be spent on the project.

But new artificial turf recently installed on the field pushed the anticipated cost of the project to $4 million. The board last week approved raising the project’s cost ceiling. The state has approved a maximum of $5 million for the project.

The baseball field is expected to get new dugouts and stands.

The improvements are part of a more than $20 million campaign to improve athletic facilities across the campus.
