HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police say the charges against two men accused of attacking and beating a North Carolina wildlife officer have been upgraded to attempted murder.

WYFF-TV (https://bit.ly/1Ij9BZj ) reports Officer Aaron Stronach was patrolling trout fishing on the Green River Game Lands in Henderson County on Saturday when police say two men attacked him.

Stronach suffered head injuries and spent the night in the hospital.

Authorities say 27-year-old Derek Arold and 26-year-old Matthew Arold were arrested Sunday in the Pisgah National Forest. Warrants say the two men beat Stronach with a motorcycle helmet and kicked him in the head.

Authorities upgraded the charges to attempted murder Wednesday. Officials have not given a motive for the attack.

It is unclear if the two men are related or if they have lawyers.
