PITTSBURGH (AP) - A councilwoman in the county that’s home to Pittsburgh has died of a cancer-related illness. Allegheny County Councilwoman Barbara Daly-Danko was 61 years old.

Councilwoman Sue Means says Daly-Danko was at home with her husband, sister and some of her children when she died Wednesday.

Daly-Danko took over the District 11 seat in 2011 after Rich Fitzgerald stepped down to run for county executive. She won a four-year term and was in a tough re-election campaign this year.

Fitzgerald has ordered all flags at county government buildings to be flown at half-staff.

Means says Daly Danko was a force for transparency and good government. The late councilwoman served in different government positions for more than 15 years.

Means says she may still win her election.
