HANOVER, N.H. (AP) - Leaders in health care, law enforcement, criminal justice and other fields are coming together to discuss New Hampshire’s growing problem with heroin and other opioids.

The 11th annual Dartmouth Symposium on Substance Abuse is being held Thursday in Hanover. This year’s focus is on taking action to reduce opioid-related deaths and addiction, and comes as such deaths are rising across northern New England and the nation.

The conference is co-sponsored by the New England Institute of Addiction Studies, the Upper Valley Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition and the governor’s commission on drug prevention, treatment and recovery.
