FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Officials in Farmingdale are closing schools on Friday because of a nearby funeral for a slain New York City police officer.

A statement on the school district website says that the Nassau County Police Department is closing several roads near Farmingdale because of the funeral for Officer Brian Moore.

He died Monday of wounds inflicted in a shooting last weekend while on patrol in Queens.

The funeral is being held at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Seaford. Officials are expecting up to 30,000 police officers to line the streets near the church.

Police say road closures will include Stewart Avenue and Hicksville Road from Hempstead Turnpike to the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

School officials in Farmingdale say they wouldn’t be able to transport students in a timely and safe manner.
