ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - The circus apparently wasn’t all fun and games the last time it was in one Long Island town.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1Ejv3HR ) the Islip Town Parks Department has denied a permit that would have allowed Cole Bros. Circus to put on shows as a fundraiser for East Islip Fire Department.

Parks Commissioner Kerry Basset says the fields were left in “complete disarray” after the circus left last year. She says the town paid $1,100 in repairs and cleanup after it left town. She says the shows could also conflict with Little League teams who already are permitted to use the fields.

Animal advocates praised the town’s decision. They protested last year’s shows.

Officials from Cole Bros. Circus and the fire department didn’t return requests for comment.
