SEATTLE (AP) - A Vancouver, Washington man was trying to help a friend cut down a tree in University Place when it gave way and landed on him, crushing his legs.

KOMO TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Ed9OrT ) that Jake Hanes was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after the accident last Friday.

Doctors were able to save his life, but not his legs.

The 29-year-old father has three young children and is facing more surgeries, an extensive rehabilitation and unimaginable costs.

His family says he’s a happy, positive guy, and they believe he’ll recover.
