LOS ANGELES (AP) - An Echo Park man has been reunited with his dog after two women impersonating police officers stole his furry friend.

KABC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1EZjBWw ) that two women wearing fake Los Angeles Police Department Animal Cruelty Task Force uniforms took Fannie from her owner Cesar Aguilar on April 24. Investigators found the dog Wednesday and returned her home.

Aguilar says the alleged thieves had official looking papers and threatened the pet owner with fines and an arrest if he did not give up Fannie. He ended up turning her over to the women hoping to resolve what appeared to be a mistake, only to find they were not official officers.

LAPD has arrested 51-year-old Jenny Smiles in connection to the incident. Officers are still looking for the second suspect.
