CHICAGO (AP) - The June closure of a Waukegan manufacturing plant that produces video gambling machines will result in the elimination of nearly 250 jobs in Lake County.

Waukegan Mayor Wayne Motley says the loss of jobs in his city is devastating. He says city officials already have been working to find a replacement to occupy the facility.

A Scientific Games Corporation official says 100 positions will be reassigned to its research and development campus in Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune (https://trib.in/1H2ftEE ) reports the WMS Industries plant in Waukegan was acquired in January 2014 by Scientific Games. The parent company announced last fall that it also acquired Las Vegas-based Bally Technologies.

The series of transactions allowed Scientific Games to move its New York corporate headquarters and Waukegan manufacturing plant to Las Vegas.
