PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix woman is accused of child abuse after allegedly stomping the head of her live-in boyfriend’s young daughter.

Phoenix police say 28-year-old Stacy Jo Pruden was jailed on Tuesday. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer yet.

The girl told police that she was lying on the floor in a back room of their house Sunday when Pruden walked in and stomped her head, causing it to hit the floor.

Police say the girl’s father went into the room, struck Pruden and grabbed his daughter to run outside when Pruden grabbed the girl’s leg.

The girl was taken to a Phoenix hospital.

Pruden told police she might have accidentally stepped on the girl’s head trying to escape her boyfriend during a confrontation, but she wouldn’t intentionally hurt the child.
