BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. has been ordered to pay nearly $65,000 to a city couple injured when their car and Gaudett’s city-owned SUV collided in 2010.

The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/1AItpyX ) that Bridgeport Superior Court Judge Dale Radcliffe imposed the order Thursday. Radcliffe ruled Gaudett was 50 percent negligent for the injuries suffered by Roy Padilla-Jimenez and his former girlfriend, Luz Batista.

Gaudett and Padilla-Jimenez both testified that they were driving through green traffic lights when their vehicles collided at an intersection.

The judge said Gaudett failed to take timely action to avoid the crash, but also ruled Padilla-Jimenez was speeding and also failed to take evasive action.

Radcliffe also said it was not proven that Gaudett was using his cell phone just before the accident.
