SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania couple has been charged in the death of their newborn son who police say the parents found blue and lifeless next to them in bed after they had taken a painkiller and anti-anxiety medication.

Scranton detectives tell The Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1DV6AIl ) that Anthony John Donvito and Amanda Salvatori, both 26, were arrested Thursday on charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

The baby was 5-weeks old when police were called to the home Jan. 22. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The newspaper reports that according to an autopsy, the baby’s death was “consistent with sudden unexplained death in infancy” but asphyxiation “cannot be excluded.”

The newspaper says both parents tested positive for oxycodone and Alprazolam.
